Blepharoplasty (Eyelid Surgery)—Metairie & New Orleans, LA—

ABOUT BLEPHAROPLASTY

The eyes are a unique feature of the face that deserve to sparkle; however, an abundance of skin or puffiness around the eyes can produce a tired and unflattering look. Plastic surgeon Dr. Cynthia Mizgala uses blepharoplasty (also known as eyelid surgery) to reduce excess skin and rejuvenate the upper or lower eyelid, or both.

This simple surgery can create a younger and awakened facial appearance. Countless men and women receive eyelid surgery at A Woman Plastic Surgeon to eliminate saggy eyelids without looking overdone or surprised. Blepharoplasty, whether lower, upper, or both, can produce subtle yet striking improvements. If you want to learn more about rejuvenating your eyes with eyelid lift surgery, schedule a consultation with Dr. Mizgala at her office in Metairie, LA.

IDEAL CANDIDATES FOR BLEPHAROPLASTY

Upper or lower blepharoplasty is a cosmetic surgery that is performed on both men and women. At your first visit for a blepharoplasty New Orleans plastic surgeon Dr. Mizgala will explain treatment alternatives based on your areas of concern. Generally, ideal candidates complain of excess, drooping skin and folds that exist on the top eyelids, or puffiness and fine lines on the bottom eyelids. For a rejuvenated yet natural look, eyelid surgery may be the right surgery for you. If you have hanging skin that folds over on the upper eyelids or bulges and puffiness under the eyes, blepharoplasty can treat this to give you a more youthful appearance.

BLEPHAROPLASTY FAQs

What are some other benefits of eyelid surgery?

Eyelid surgery can help to refresh your appearance, it can also improve other aspects of your life as well. You may find your field of vision expanding when hanging skin from your upper eyelid is removed. It can also be easier to apply eye makeup when your upper eyelid is smooth. Eliminating fine lines, "crepey" skin, puffy bags, and dark circles under your eyes can make your eyes look brighter and fuller without cosmetics.

Will an eyelid lift fix wrinkles and Crow's feet?

Wrinkles on your forehead and the corners of your eyes (Crow's feet) may be better corrected with BOTOX or a brow lift because the results of a blepharoplasty are confined to the eyelids only. Eyelid surgery can be combined with a nonsurgical procedure, such as BOTOX, which greatly minimizes wrinkles on the forehead and around the eyes. An injectable filler can also be effective because it adds volume to hollow areas for a smoother appearance. During your consultation for a blepharoplasty New Orleans plastic surgeon Dr. Mizgala will create your personal treatment plan based on your eyelid anatomy.

What about nonsurgical treatments instead of blepharoplasty?

Noninvasive skin tightening procedures and injectable treatments (for example, Restylane, Juvéderm, and BOTOX) can provide some improvements. However, if you have moderate to severe sagging skin or want long-lasting results, a blepharoplasty would be better than a nonsurgical treatment. After you have talked to Dr. Mizgala about your concerns and goals for your eyes, she can explain her recommendations for your nonsurgical or surgical treatment plan. She may also suggest both surgical and nonsurgical procedures for best results.

How much does a blepharoplasty cost?

Blepharoplasty cost varies depending on whether you are having an upper eyelid lift, lower, or both. The average price range for a blepharoplasty, depending on what is being addressed, is typically about $4,200 – $7,900. To make it easy for you to afford an enhancement, such as a blepharoplasty, A Woman Plastic Surgeon accepts many payment methods and we can help you find low-interest financing.

Surgical Technique

Upper and/or lower blepharoplasty are usually performed in an outpatient surgery center under IV sedation. Some patients do prefer general anesthesia. This cosmetic procedure may be done on the upper eyelid(s) alone, on the bottom eyelid(s), or a combination of both eyelids.

Upper

Upper blepharoplasty assists in decreasing the folds of skin that droops over the eye to create a more awakened and appealing look. An incision is usually made along the lid crease to excise loose skin and fatty tissue.

Lower

Eyelid correction on the lower lid is performed to reduce puffiness and bulging beneath the lower eyelid and to minimize fine wrinkles. The incision is carefully made along the lash line to allow access to remove tissue and fat, and the skin is subtly lifted to allow for a softer, flatter look. In some cases, a nonsurgical laser treatment can be incorporated to assist with discoloration, while fillers can be used for more smoothness and to fill under eye circles if desired.

If you find it difficult to see or apply makeup because of folds of skin on the upper eyelid, or you suffer from puffy bags under your eyes, then upper or lower blepharoplasty or both may be right for you. This enhancement can help you look refreshed and youthful without changing the shape of your eyes or looking unnatural. At A Woman Plastic Surgeon we strive to deliver the best blepharoplasty New Orleans has to offer. BLEPHAROPLASTY RECOVERY

Eyelid surgery can last up to two hours, depending on whether one or both eyelids are treated. After this outpatient surgery, there is minimal to no pain, but there may be some bruising for about a week. A cold compress can help reduce discomfort, swelling, and bruising. The results from a blepharoplasty can last years, but even though they are lasting, the aging process does not stop. To maintain your surgical outcome, other nonsurgical cosmetic treatments at A Woman Plastic Surgeon, such as fillers, peels, and lasers, might be recommended over the years.
