If you’re looking to fight signs of aging, you may have heard of a new option called Jeuveau. Also known as "newtox," Jeuveau is a new botulism toxin type A injectable product meant to target the frown lines between your eyes, sometimes called "elevens."

Jeuveau is a new prescription injectable medication for use on moderate-to-severe frown lines in adults. It is strategically injected into the muscles of the glabellar complex to freeze them and reduce the appearance of glabellar lines, or frown lines.
Jeuveau works by relaxing the muscles and temporarily blocking communication pathways between those muscles and the corresponding nerves.
Jeuveau is a botulism toxin type A product, known as prabotulinumtoxinA-xvfs. It is a purified protein derived from the Clostridium botulinum bacterium. Botulism toxin type A is also found in other injectables like Botox and Dysport.
You have likely heard of Botox, and Jeuveau is a similar treatment. Both Jeuveau and Botox are prescription injectable products that can help to lessen or improve the appearance of facial wrinkles. Both are botulism toxin type A products that work by temporarily freezing the muscles causing the wrinkles, which gives skin a smoother and more youthful appearance.
Though they are similar products, Jeuveau and Botox are different treatments. Jeuveau is newer to the market, having been approved by the FDA in 2018, and it is only approved for cosmetic use, specifically for frown lines. Botox has been on the market for over two decades and is so well-known as an injectable that many people use its brand name — Botox — to refer to all anti-wrinkle injectables. Additionally, Botox is FDA-approved not only for the treatment of wrinkles but also for the treatment of conditions like chronic migraines, excessive sweating, and more.
Another key difference between Jeuveau and Botox is that Jeuveau is comprised of a different form of botulism toxin type A than is used in Botox. While both Jeuveau and Botox are effective in temporarily paralyzing muscles to lessen wrinkles, everyone is different, and some patients may find that one type of protein works better in their body.
Jeuveau is a botulism toxin type A-derived injectable that can help to lessen or improve the appearance of frown lines between the eyebrows in adults. Jeuveau can:
Unlike other wrinkle-treating injectables, Jeuveau was designed and is FDA-approved specifically for frown lines.

Jeuveau treatment is quick and easy; the entire process only takes about 15 minutes from start to finish!
First, New Orleans Jeuveau provider, Dr. Mizgala, will clean your skin and apply a topical numbing cream to help reduce as much discomfort as possible. After the numbing agent has taken effect, Dr. Mizgala will strategically inject units of Jeuveau into the muscles of the glabellar complex, where your frown lines are located. Then, she will massage the area to help facilitate even distribution of the Jeuveau.
After all necessary units of Jeuveau have been injected, Dr. Mizgala will apply a cold compress to the injection sites to help reduce possible swelling.
Jeuveau results are immediate after injection. However, treatment results are usually temporary, lasting three to four months before wearing off. There is no downtime associated with this treatment; you will be able to resume normal activity immediately afterward.
To ensure optimal results, you should try not to rub at or massage the treated area for at least 24 hours following injection. Additionally, you should try to avoid exposing the treated area to extreme temperatures (heat or cold) as this can also affect the results of your treatment.
